The weekend service can be very inspiring, but it can’t entirely fulfill the need we have for community. God exists in community and He created us in His image. Therefore, we believe people are specifically created to be in real, authentic relationships, to move beyond the superficial, and begin doing life together. That is why FCCC began implementing Life Groups. A Life Group is a group of about 8-12 people who share life together and commit to meeting regularly to grow as a community, experience life change, and live out their calling for God. Life Groups are for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity. Meeting regularly in someone’s home for connection, Bible study, and prayer, Life Groups provide an intimate setting where you can get comfortable, laugh, share, invest, grow, and change. We call them Life Groups because we’re not made to do life alone.

Why do we do all this? There are three Biblical purposes for Community in Life Groups. It is our goal that every person connected to a life group experiences these purposes as a result:

(1) Experience CONNECTION by joining the First Capital family and building relationships with other believers in Christ that encourage, love and grow together. (Acts 2:46-47)

(2) Experience GROWTH by enriching each other’s relationship with God through Bible study, sharing stories and life experiences, and by discovering your spiritual gifts and unique personality. (Acts 2:42)

(3) Groups make an IMPACT by caring for the needs of each other, serving the needs of others in the church and the rest of the community, and getting new people connected to life groups. (Act 2:44-45)

FAQ

How Are Groups Formed?

They are formed based upon affinity, location, need, purpose, etc. Every group will be different, but what’s sure is that there is a group for you.

What Do You Study?

We have several life group studies in our growing library. Most of these curriculums are video and discussion driven and are designed to help each person in the group grow in their relationship with Christ in a very relational way. Many groups usually study a book of the Bible or do a topical study. Also, all groups may come together once a year to go through a study based on a sermon series.

Who Leads Life Groups?

Life Groups are facilitated by imperfect people who long to see others connected.

A facilitator is someone who:

  • Is a member of First Capital Christian Church
  • Has a growing relationship with Christ
  • Desires to see others grow in their relationship with Christ
  • Develops community and its three purposes and gets everyone involved
  • Is willing to open their home for group meetings or go to another person’s home
  • Will attend a training session
  • Will attend quarterly update events
  • Will work with their group to choose a curriculum of study
  • Will facilitate group discussions and keep members informed of group updates

What a Life Group is not meant to be:

  • Another “social” gathering
  • An intense class or bible study (although as groups grow together, deeper study will occur naturally)
  • A gossip circle
  • A confession group

What a Life Group is meant to be:

  • A safe, loving family where everyone is accepted and people know who you are
  • A place where you are cared for (and you care for others)
  • An authentic environment for meaningful discussion
  • A place where you grow in your relationship with Christ as you learn to love others
  • A place where you discover your God-given gifts and unique personality to serve and make a difference in the Kingdom of God
  • A place where you are challenged and encouraged
  • The Church as God intended it to be
